At Henderson Green Primary Academy, we know the importance of lessons that take place outside the classroom.

Each year group has been assigned a weekly activity that is delivered by a professional in that field. It has been specifically chosen to enrich the children’s experiences and provide them with skills and opportunities that are not possible within the confines of the classroom.

EYFS and Key Stage 1

Reception: On Thursdays they have ‘Little People’s Drama’ company to deliver a drama based session through role play and stories.

Year 1: Every Wednesday the children are taught Karate and develop their knowledge and skills each week working towards to official grading.

Year 2: Our Year 2’s get a weekly visit from the Bushcraft team.

Key Stage 2

Year 3: Their weekly visit from the Bushcraft team has enabled Year 3 to develop a variety of outdoor skills, such as cooking over a fire. They have worked as a team to enhance our outdoor learning area by crafting dens, creating a seating area and giving bugs a stylish home with their bug hotel.

Year 4: Every Friday afternoon the children have a bushcraft session led by Mr Earle. learn to play a musical instrument. This year the children are learning to play the violin. These sessions are delivered by Norfolk Music Hub.

Year 5: Each Friday the children have an outdoor Bushcraft session delivered by our Bushcraft teacher Mr Earle.

Year 6: This term the children have weekly swimming lessons to support the end of KS2 expectation of achieving a swimming distance of 25m. Our Year 6 children take on the responsibility of House Captains.

Developing leaders

We want to encourage children to have roles and responsibilities to develop their confidence, resilience and initiative.

We have developed a number of roles that our Year 5 and 6 children can apply for. To celebrate how proud we are of them they wear a gold pin, which also identifies them to the other children.
