Our Curriculum Intent

At Henderson Green, our curriculum is designed to open doors, ignite curiosity and give every child the knowledge, confidence and ambition they need to thrive – now and in the future.

We believe that all children deserve access to a rich, challenging and coherent curriculum regardless of their starting point. Our curriculum sets out clearly what we want our children to know, remember and be able to do, while nurturing a lifelong love of learning.

Our intent is to ensure that pupils:

• It is a ‘toolkit’ to develop skills of resilience, responsibility, independence and the ability to work alongside others so that they are grounded adults, able to meet the challenges and pressures of everyday life in a continuously changing world with passion, enthusiasm, courage, positivity and self-assuredness. 
• The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness not just for their next stage of education but for the rest of their lives.
• Our aim is that through the curriculum we offer our pupils opportunities and experiences that they may not otherwise have.
• It ensures that academic success, creativity and problem solving, application of reasoning, questioning and applying knowledge and skills across the curriculum, as well as physical development, well-being and mental health are key elements that support the development of the whole child and promote a positive attitude to learning.
• The curriculum celebrates the diversity and utilises the skills, knowledge and cultural wealth of the community while supporting the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Learning at Henderson Green is purposeful and carefully sequenced so that knowledge builds over time. We place high value on understanding the wider world, fostering resilience and encouraging children to ask questions, think critically and take pride in their achievements.

Our Curriculum Approach

To support this ambition, we follow the CUSP Curriculum (Curriculum with Unity Schools Partnership).

CUSP provides a knowledge‑rich, well‑sequenced curriculum that places learning in meaningful contexts and ensures that key concepts are revisited, deepened and embedded over time. It helps our teachers plan learning that is ambitious, inclusive and accessible, while maintaining high expectations for all.

Through CUSP, children at Henderson Green:

• Learn powerful subject knowledge rooted in real‑world contexts
• Develop strong literacy and vocabulary across the curriculum
• Understand how what they learn today connects to what they learned before – and what comes next
