    Every Moment Counts!

It has been a busy week at Henderson Green Primary Academy.

Spring term after-school clubs have started up, with the Year 6 SATs Club beginning this week. All children who gained a place in each club are having great fun and all of the club leaders were impressed with the levels of focus and enthusiasm. We had a successful Friends meeting this week and have planned dates for future events this spring term. Please can I remind you that we are a nut-free school this includes the use of hazelnut/nutella spread in packed lunch boxes. We need to ensure that we are keeping children and staff members safe.

With the weather being so cold, please ensure your child is coming to school with the appropriate outdoor clothing, especially if they have Bushcraft or Forest School on their timetables.

Thank you for your continuing support.

    Let's Celebrate Attendance

Our whole school attendance this week was 94%. In first place this week is Reception with 100%, second place is Year 1 with 98.3% and in third place was Year 5 with 98.1%.

Reminder, as a school, we are no longer allowed to authorise any requests for children to be taken out of school for a holiday during term time.

    Star Pupils!

Our Star Pupils this week are:

Rocket Cameron H -  For managing his emotions and expressing how he feels. He has also started sitting on the carpet for the first time since joining Rocket class.

Reception Havana - For being positive and always trying her best. A joy to have in class!
Year 1 Jimmy - this week Jimmy has been trying really hard with his learning. He has done all his maths and wrote 3 sentences in writing. Amazing job Jimmy!

Year 2  Lucy- For starting to take some independence and pride in her writing. She has been carefully using adjectives, adverbs and verbs to create some exciting sentences!

Year 3 Lincoln - for making extra effort to participate in class discussions on the carpet and has been challenging himself this week.

Year 4 Daisy - Our star of the week is Daisy! She has been working amazingly hard in all lessons and has also written an amazing story, with similes, expanded noun phrases and inverted commas. Brilliant work, Daisy!

Year 5 Lily- Lily is the Star of the week in Sea Palling. She has settled well at Henderson and has a good attitude to learning.

Year 6 Brooke - In Horsey, we are so proud of Brooke for having an excellent work ethic and working well to do her best in all lessons.

In assembly today, we also awarded a gold badge, pencil and certificate to each child who has achieved 100% attendance throughout the whole of autumn term.

Well done everyone! We are extremely proud of you.

    Outdoor Learning

    Year 6 INTO University Week

Wow, what a week! We were fortunate enough to take part in the Into University focus week, which looked at creative arts. The class was split into 4 groups and were assigned an influential person in the creative arts world, who they would research throughout the week and create posters and presentations for. On Monday (after the first of many walks!) the class were introduced to creative writing, app design, fashion and architecture as forms of art. On Tuesday, they were given the chance to develop their performing skills, with the help of a performing arts manager and practitioner. They were given direction on how to express themselves with their voice and actions. On Wednesday, we had an incredible trip to the Sainsbury's centre. This exposed them to many forms of art, as well as use it for inspiration with their own booklets, known as zines. They explored perspective, detail and impressionism. On Thursday, we were back at West Earlham, where we explored what it was like to apply for university, looking at prospectuses and seeing what courses were available. They were surprised by the variety! Our last day took us back to the UEA, where we explored the campus and saw what it was like to live on campus. They finished their day by presenting and graduating in front of the parents in a HUGE auditorium. I was so proud of how well they applied themselves to it. This peaked at the Sainsbury's centre, when a few members of the public approached me to say that the class was a credit. Well done again Year 6!

    Reading at Henderson Green

Following the success of last term, we are keen to continue to strive to build a reading for pleasure culture amongst our pupils and community. Every week,we welcome parents and carers to enjoy our EYFS/KS1 reading sessions. KS2 session dates for Spring term are coming very soon!

Following the reading expectations letter sent today, it is vitally important to a child's education that they continue to develop their reading at home.

We politely ask that you are continuing to read with your child at home, and this is recorded in their reading records which will be checked by the class teacher on a weekly basis. This could be their RWI, leveled or library book. If you need any support with this please contact your child's class teacher or our English Lead Mrs Tibble.
